Stem Mastering Service
In addition to our standard mastering service we also offer stem mastering for clients who want a mastering engineer to have the most control during the mastering process. For the majority of projects standard stereo mastering will provide excellent results, however for artists who prefer to give me the most possible control over their mix I also offer stem mastering. Mastering from stems allow me to dive in deeper to the mix and more finely adjust frequencies and levels. It also allow more control to correct problems in the mix that might otherwise be impossible with a single stereo file.
How To Prepare Your Mix to Stems
Preparing a mix for stem mastering involves grouping your instruments into individual stems. We accept up to 6 stereo stems per song, and as a general rule you want to group similar instruments together. An example set of stems would be: drums, bass, synths, rhythm guitars, lead guitar vocals, and backup vocals. The stems you submit can be separated any way that will give our engineer the best options to work with your project. As with all mastering projects we recommend leaving 3dbB of headroom and removing any pre-mastering processing from each stem. Stems should all be the exact same length and start and stop at the same time (this is crucial so the tracks line up when they’re imported and mixed together.)
Remastering
Digital music technology has progressed in leaps and bounds, and now is the time to bring the recordings up to date. For this process I am using both state-of-the art digital electronics and “vintage studio equipment,” to perform the analog-digital conversion from original tapes. The intention has been to carefully keep hold of the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings.
There’s no better time to introduce them to the 21st century. With the help of state-of-the-art digital remastering, you can breathe new life into that classic analog.
Wherever possible, tapes will be transferred with every effort made to match the integrity of the original tape, recording and/or mixes. All transfers will be made in their original state . All of my transfering is done in real time to assure the best possible transfer. If required or requested, noise reduction and/or equalization may be used to enhance the reproduction of the recording.
